Easter Classic Powerlifting Comp

Sunday 29th March

Put this date in your calendars now!

Our next Powerlifting Competition is 12 weeks away at the time of writing this beautifully eloquent site update!

It is taking place on:

Sunday 29th March 2020.

The whole idea behind these days is a no pressure, fun environment, in which you can test yourself and your lifts, meet fellow lifting friends, and get an insight into how competitions run, but without the added pressure of super-official official-ness! No minimum qualifying totals to enter, no stringent BW classes, just enter, show up, and lift!

Spectators will be charged £5 on entry - this includes handlers, coaches, family and friends.

Food, snacks, drinks, tea+coffee are sold at the gym!

Entry for each competitor is £25.

Scroll down for comp info, read up and book on!

(N.B. both of this is an UNOFFICIAL competition, no totals may be used to qualify for sanctioned events)

PL COMP: HOW THE DAY WILL RUN

  • The day will run much like an official GBPF comp in terms of structure, on arrival you will stop at the front desk to say hello and confirm your name, you will weigh-in, and following that you will write down your first attempts, rack heights, and any music requests for attempts you might have! You will be directed to who you need to see for each of these on the day . (Weigh-in time and lift-off time will be confirmed nearer to the day).

  • You will be grouped into flights based on weight classes (ascending), so there will be no need to cut to weigh in to any of the official weight classes. We will simply group you all into 3 or 4 flights, depending on how many of you there are, in ascending bodyweight order. We repeat: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CUT/BULK TO WEIGH INTO AN OFFICIAL  WEIGHT CLASS FOR THIS UNOFFICIAL COMP!

  • Flight 1 will all take their first squat attempts, then their second, then their third. Flight 2 will then do the same. Then Flight 3 will do the same. There will be a small break to set up the platform for bench/for you all to have a sit down and a snack. Flight 1 will then take their first bench attempts, and so on and so forth as above. Then another small break, followed by Flight 1's first deadlift attempts and so on and so forth as above.

  • Lifters will be judged by 3 refs on the day, IPF rules regarding things like bum/head/heels down for bench, squat depth etc will apply, though as this will be an unofficial comp, there will be a degree of leniency with commands. Please find the technical rules for the performance of each lift (pages 17-19) here:

  • Though in official IPF competitions several regulations apply regarding clothing and kit, at our unofficial comp you will simply be required to wear a singlet of any brand (no need to be IPF approved), leggings or cycling shorts. Elbows must be visible for bench. Any wrist wraps or belts can be used (no need to be IPF approved). No wraps allowed for squats, but sleeves permitted (no need to be IPF approved). No pulling straps allowed for deadlift.

POWERLIFTING COMP ENTRIES NOW CLOSED

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE ENTERED!

OUR NEXT COMPETITION WILL BE HELD IN SUMMER. WE'LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN ENTRIES OPEN FOR IT!

wL COMP: HOW THE DAY WILL RUN

  • The day will run much like an official BWL comp in terms of structure. On arrival you will stop at the front desk to say hello and confirm your name, you will weigh-in, and following that you will write down your first attempts, and any music requests for attempts you might have! You will be directed to who you need to see for each of these on the day . (Weigh-in time and lift-off time will be confirmed nearer to the day).

  • You will be put into groups based on weight classes (ascending), so there will be no need to cut to weigh in to any of the official weight classes. We will simply group you all into 3 or 4 groups, depending on how many of you there are.  We repeat: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CUT/BULK TO "MAKE WEIGHT" FOR THIS UNOFFICIAL COMP! Top 3 male and Top 3 female lifters will be calculated using the Sinclair coefficient formula.

  • Group 1 will complete their first attempts for Snatch, running by rising bar (lowest weight on the bar will go first, highest weight on the bar last). This will be repeated for seond and third attempt Snatches. After 10 mins, Group 1 will then complete Clean and Jerk in the same way. Group 2 will then do the same. Then Group 3 will do the same. There will be a small break between each group.

  • Lifters will be judged by 3 refs on the day. Whilst it is an unofficial comp, standards around the performance of lifts will be upheld. IWF rules regarding things like: catching the snatch with straight arms (no muscle snatch allowed), elbows not touching knees on cleans, not double dipping on jerks, no bar oscillation before jerks, jerks being caught on straight arms overhead, and finally for both lifts, completing the lifts in a continuous motion (no double pulling allowed) - will all be expected. Lifts must be held overhead, under control, with feet parallel to one another, to be given the down command. Finally, if the lift comes of the floor but not past the knees, it is not considered an attempt (i.e the lift has not started). Please find technical rules for the performance of each lift (pages 7-10) here:
